60 years of specialisation 20 December 2022

Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2022, Bossong SpA has established itself as an Italian manufacturer of fastening systems – with the company known for its ongoing specialisation and innovation in chemical anchors, post installed rebar connections, heavy-duty fixings and powder actuated tooling.

Bossong was initially founded in Germany in 1937 as a producer of automotive components, but in 1962 the company was acquired by the Taddei family and developed into a fixings manufacturer and supplier based in Italy. Since then the company has gone on to become one of the leading businesses in the production of fixing systems – with a reputation for innovation.

A prime example of this innovative mentality is the recent addition of E-Plus, a bi-component styrene-free pure epoxy resin, to Bossong’s already impressive portfolio. “The E-Plus is the next generation of super epoxy resin and is the newest version of the original Epox from the 1990s,” explains Bossong. “It is a short name that encapsulates thirty years of research and development in the chemical anchor sector, essential enough not to require anything else except for the ‘plus’, which is a hint at its above expectations performance, like all the other products offered by Bossong over the last 60 years.”

Features of the new E-Plus include a 100 year service life, which is twice the standard 50 years and makes the resin ideal for major projects. Another key advantage includes applicability in flooded holes tested underwater; the resin’s fire resistance – up to a maximum of R24; as well as its natural ability to penetrate into holes and hollow materials thanks to the successful combination of fluidity and adherence – reaching up to 2.5 metres of extrusion with no expansion or shrinking. The E-Plus is also suitable for use with masonry, wood, and concrete, in a range of temperatures up to 50°C – with strong grip on smooth surfaces such as core holes.

Bossong highlights that the E-Plus has also obtained numerous certifications, ensuring excellent results in terms of the environment – as it is part of the company’s range of products qualified according to the LEED protocol concerning the certification of VOC content (Volatile Organic Compounds) and it has obtained the highest qualification level, i.e. A+ rating, of the French regulation.

“The resin has also obtained EOTA approval for concrete bonding in accordance with EAD 330499-01-0601 and EAD 330087-01-0601,” points out Bossong. “Its aseismic performance is especially notable as it is double that of the current product and has obtained the highest C2 rating for M12 and M24. It is the jewel in the crown of this new 3:1 formula capable of reacting efficiently to significant earth movements, just as the certified aseismic rebar rods with 12mm to 32mm diameter.”

A distinctive characteristic of the new E-Plus is that it has been created to meet the needs of the construction sector while also respecting the environment – offering safety and maximising structural consolidation, which have been distinctive characters of all Bossong products. “E-Plus is the latest step in a journey that started decades ago,” explains Bossong. “Between the 1960s and the 1970s we specialised first in the production of rivets and riveting machines for concrete anchoring, then mechanical anchors and plugs. The shift to chemical anchors was made by chemist Luciano Taddei, founder of Bossong SpA Italia, and marked a decisive change of direction. The formulation and filling of these bi-component chemical anchors to fix metal elements in concrete and masonry structures with epoxy, polyester, and vinylester resins, led to the company’s worldwide success.”

At the start of the new millennium, the recently established EOTA certification body approved the products on a European and international scale but at the same time forced the company to align to increasingly higher standards and face competition on a wider scale, Bossong took on the new challenges by focusing on research and innovation, aware that each investment was a step towards market leadership. “The strength of our anchors has been achieved thanks to sixty years of experience and a strive for innovation and the highest level of competencies,” states Bossong proudly.

An additional reason for pride for Bossong is the inauguration of a new logistics centre, which has allowed the company to totally redesign itself both inside and out. “The warehouse is completely automated and connected using all the latest technologies, leaving more space in the main building for additional production lines – which are connected using 4.0 next generation technologies and robotics,” mentions Bossong. “Last but not least, the 1,250m2 of photovoltaic panels – providing almost 200,000kWh and a power of approximately 200kW per year – are a tangible proof of the company’s commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, a circular economy approach that benefits the entire community.”
