SPC-LAB, Volume Plus and MCVplant: Dimac tribute to process controls 24 February 2016

Attentive to market demands and needs, Italian-based Dimac Srl is always looking to develop, engineer and produce the most complete range of 100% inspection and sorting machines for fasteners and mechanical components.

Today, customers’ demands focus on process controls and data collecting through sophisticated information systems and advanced production process simulations. Dimac is able to respond to these demands by using the latest technology available.

Firstly there is SPC-LAB, a first piece inspection mobile equipment suitable for in process and post process measurements and controls directly on the shop floor – beside the production machinery.

SPC-LAB is a versatile machine, which can inspect any kind of fasteners or mechanical component produced by cold forming, stamping or turning. There is no part fixing required as the parts are positioned on a V track support and it takes less than a second to perform up to 100 complex dimensional measurements. The operator simply presses a button.

The system uses high resolution cameras; a barcode reader to operator log in and part recognition; and networking tools to interface with the company SPC systems/software and servers. SPC-LAB covers a wide range of parts from 2mm to 35mm in diameter and 10mm to 70mm in length. Custom versions are also available on demand.

Also available from Dimac, under licence, is Volume Plus – a software package for fasteners, which is used for pre-control of the forging process and to help estimate and predict the production costs of any forged part. Dimac points out that Volume Plus allows super fast calculations of volumes and weights for a wide variety of non-standard complex shape components. It offers indication of extrusion ratios and forging limits; waste material consideration in case of trimming or piercing operations; accurate description of holes, recesses, rings, ribs, etc; as well as the design of complete forming progressions for special parts in minutes.

A limited edition of the Volume Plus software is available on any Dimac automatic 100% inspection and sorting machine.

The final software package available from Dimac is MCVplant, which allows the remote control of the sorting process on Dimac machines. The sorting department is controlled remotely over the network. This makes it possible for users to see how the sorting job is going on any single machine, just by clicking its icon on the desktop. The number of OK parts / NOT OK parts, as well as statistic reports with output rate, are immediately visible and available on the remote screen. In addition, any alarm or warning message on any machine would be highlighted on the desktop for the supervisor.

“At Dimac we are committed to developing new products that meet the customer’s demands.”
