Solving packaging issues for long products 21 December 2022

When it comes to packing long fasteners, manufacturers of roofing and timber screws often experience an issue with tangling. Packaging lines from Weighpack are solving this issue by using magnetic orientation to align products.

During the manufacturing process of these long coarse threaded fasteners, the fasteners are usually collected in steel bins at the outlet of the forming machines, as well as the outlet of heat treatment and various coating systems. This naturally leads to a nest of unmanageable proportions, requiring large amounts of human resources to separate, align/orient and pack these kinds of products – which are in high demand worldwide.

During the last couple of years, Weighpack International has sold a number of solutions for long screws, across both Europe and the USA. These solutions, which are based on a development of a 40 year old concept for customers in the concrete fibre reinforcement industry, are capable of handling screws ranging from 25mm up to 200mm for fast packaging lines with use of a multi head weighing machine. Longer lengths can also be achieved by using Weighpack’s continuous in-line weighing machines, specially designed for very long screws up to 300mm – 400mm.

“Some solutions are semi automatic, where the products are detangled and oriented for subsequent manual packaging, others are fully automatic with carton forming and closing machines, as well as plastic container destacking and lidding functionality – providing an end-to-end packaging solution,” comments Weighpack. “If you are struggling with the packaging of long products – Weighpack can help.”
