Secondary operation machines for the fastener sector 13 June 2025

Since 1988, OMC-WIRELOMBARDIA Srl has established itself as a global leader in the design and manufacture of secondary operation machines for the fastener industry, including those for turning, milling, thread calibration, drilling and assembly, as well as continuing to respond to the needs of an ever changing market with fully customised solutions.

Through constant innovation and a commitment to quality, Italian-based OMC has established itself on an international scale, becoming a reference point for manufacturers of screws, bolts, nuts and other metal components. Each machine manufactured is studied, designed and built according to the production requirements of each individual part, adapting each project to the specific needs, taking into account the flexibility and productivity of the plant.

“Our machines are designed to deliver high performance, whilst ensuring continuous, full cycle production with minimal downtime,” explains OMC. “This is crucial for customers operating in production intensive environments, where the ability to operate without interruption and with rapid processing cycles is crucial.”

The robustness and reliability of the machines are among their distinguishing features and, thanks to the use of high-quality materials and careful design, ensure a long service life, minimise maintenance requirements and guarantee stable performance even after years of continuous operation.

The company underlines: “Our machines, in addition to being supported by solid precision mechanics for the movement of their component parts, are equipped with all the comforts that technology offers.” This includes a simple and intuitive machine interface by means of a touchscreen panel and pre-filled masks, which enable machine parameters and production data to be obtained in ‘real time’. Other features include a sensor self-diagnosis system, a slide dedicated to pre-set alerts for preventive maintenance operations, as well as a session dedicated to the management of alarm history to allow optimisation of the production process.

“Our machines are born and evolve to meet the needs and requirements of our customers, which means we are able to dress a machine around the product and, using our expertise of the fastener production process, we can identify the correct and most effective solution to handle and process the required part,” states OMC.

Along with its tailor-made machines, OMC also offers product lines for certain applications. This includes the OMC-TURNING LINE cam and CNC turning machines for the execution of shaped grooves, especially for large production batches, where high output and repeatability are required. With these machines, maximum production efficiency is achieved in the execution of simple or shaped grooves that cannot be produced by cold forming. The quality of the turning and the high production speed, combined with the great flexibility the machines are able to offer, make them the ideal tool for the production of small, medium and large parts.

Maintaining the same characteristics of flexibility and loading speed, the company also offers a series of CNC-controlled turning machines. These machines differ from conventional CNC lathes in that they are specially designed to meet the needs of cold formed products. This allows for maximum machining efficiency, maximum repeatability, as well as maximum speed in loading and unloading parts and above all the best handling of the part throughout the entire process.

Another product line is the OMC-MILLING LINE of cam and CNC milling and shank slotting machines. With the production of highly efficient desmodromic cam milling machines for self-tapping parts and special shank slotting machines for cambolt, OMC has continued its path of innovation and development by recently introducing new models with electronic axes. The addition of CNC axis management will enable customers to achieve greater flexibility and in some cases improve the efficiency of the production process. The new solution also gives greater design flexibility, enabling, for example, the building of a new machine model that can machine both sides of the part, as well as the machining of harder materials and larger parts in-line with customers’ requirements.

Other lines from OMC include the OMC-DRILLING LINE of compact drilling transfers for the  drilling of fasteners; the OMC-THREAD CALIBRATION LINE, to solve the problem of thread damage during production processes and guarantee maximum functionality of the threads even after surface coating treatments; as well as the OMC-ASSEMBLY LINE.

Looking to the future, OMC-WIRELOMBARDIA does not intend to stop. The company is continuing to invest in research and development to remain at the forefront of the industry and to meet the needs of an increasingly competitive market. Continuous innovation, improved production processes and the search for increasingly sustainable solutions are at the heart of its strategy, which aims to maintain its global leadership position in the design and production of machines for the fastener sector.
