BECK Fastener Group states that its Diamond Coating surface treatment offers a significant increase of holding power for wood to wood fasteners, as well as having a positive effect on the processing of fasteners – as the drive-in energy required is distinctly reduced.
BECK Fastener Group is a family business founded in 1904, which has offices in Austria, Germany, Italy, China and the USA. The company has been producing fastening technology for over 80 years – with a constant focus on customers throughout all processes.
The Diamond Coating effect is produced by the combination of thermoplastic resins, which melt due to the frictional heat, and expansion elements that are specially geared to the fastener and the wood-based material. The binding material arising from this reduces the friction between the fastener and the wooden product during the driving-in process. Also, fewer wood fibres are destroyed – helping to increase the stable contact points and give more hold to the fastener.
During the installation process there is less friction when the fastener is driven, which reduces the required working pressure. This means that the installation tools and the compressor do not wear out as much and show longer longevity.
Intertek confirms improved withdrawal values
In its test report 101817982MID-001A the accredited test lab Intertek confirmed the increased withdrawal values of Diamond Coated fasteners. Screw shank nails with Diamond Coating, for example, reach – depending on the tested type of wood – a withdrawal value improvement of up to 39% versus standard coated screw shank nails. BECK points out that with ring shank nails the value can be boosted by as much as 93%.
The most striking enhancement of withdrawal values can be observed with Diamond Coated jumbo nails. In-house tests at the BECK Test Centre showed withdrawal values increased by 150% compared to standard coated nails.
“Through our specially developed coating equipment we can offer almost all of our fasteners with Diamond Coating,” says Christian Beck, chief commercial officer of BECK Fastener Group.
Diamond Coating is already successfully used as a standard surface treatment for SubLoc® PRO SCRAIL® for subflooring, jumbo strip nails, and fence staples.
