The story of Friulsider
03 October 2016
It was in 1966 in San Giovanni al Natisone that a group of entrepreneurs founded Friulsider SpA in order to seize the opportunity then offered by the exponential growth in wood processing.
Initially Friulsider’s output was dedicated to the manufacture of screws for making furniture in wood – soon becoming a point of reference in the industry. These beginnings shaped the distinctive evolution of Friulsider, but experience in making screws is not the only trait written in the company’s DNA.
Friulsider emerged as a manufacturer, proud of its expertise and know-how, capable of sharing objectives and method with its clients, themselves manufacturers. Confident in this industrial approach, at the end of the 1970s Friulsider decided to break into the booming wall plugs market. The huge investments ensured the company continued to grow, building its first automatic assembly plant in 1988 and, two years later, introducing the plastic production division.
Research aimed at ensuring the highest quality in the production processes went hand in hand with the company’s development. Friulsider mentions it was one of the first companies in the sector to attain both the certification of quality ISO 9001 (1998) and the environmental certification ISO 14001 (2002). This determination to offer products of the highest quality led to the construction, in 2001, of its in-house test laboratory – which the company reports is one of the largest and most complete in Europe and where all its new developments are tested. This is how Friulsider obtained its first ETA certification and also why it now boasts European certification for 48 product lines covering a total of more than 1,500 fixings.
Boosted by these successes, the factory expanded rapidly over the years and now covers an overall area of 61,000m2 (23,000m2 under cover), inside which the offices and production lines – recently expanded – are housed.
Since 2008 Friulsider has been part of the ETANCO® International Group, one of the main European manufacturers of fixings and building materials. This helped contribute to its expansion beyond Italy’s borders – with Friulsider now well established in more than 20 European countries and operating in some of the most dynamic markets in the world. It is not by chance that more than 35% of the company's turnover is drawn from abroad. This is indubitably due to the company’s capacity to make all the components internally, in order to ensure a ‘Made in Italy’ product that can rapidly meet all the market requirements, from building to engineering, from the mechanical industry to carpentry.
Through its continual research into technologically innovative solutions, Friulsider is constantly extending its product range, which currently encompasses a total of 10,000 items, including anchors, fixings for roofing and walls, screws and fixings for wood, and screws, nuts and bolts for metal.
