Śrubena-Unia has a rich tradition in manufacturing that dates back to 1832. Through its strategy of continuously improving technological processes the company has been able grow its product range, as well as target new markets, to become one the largest manufacturers of industrial fasteners in Europe.
Śrubena-Unia is relatively unique in the fact that it possesses both cold and hot forging technology and offers a wide variety of standard bolts, nuts and screws, as well as custom-made products to drawings, in a full range of materials and coatings, from M5 – M64.
The main industries that the company supplies include construction, railway, coal mining, machinery, wind power, as well as automotive. 50% of its sales are within the domestic market, with 50% across the rest of Europe – with Germany being the main export market.
“Supplying such a diverse range of industries means that we have observed the negative impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on practically all of them,” mentions Śrubena-Unia. “This has obviously had an impact on us as a business as there has been a reduction in demand, due to a slowdown or suspension in many projects, constructions or new investments. However, this is true for a lot of businesses around the world.”
The Covid-19 pandemic has also impacted the company directly, with three positive cases within the business. “Thankfully the colleagues that were impacted by the pandemic did not have major symptoms and recovered relatively quickly,” points out Śrubena-Unia. “However, it was a challenge for us to analyse the colleagues that had been in contact with these people and then quarantine these additional colleagues. We were able to trace and identify all staff members and we have not experienced any infections since.”
Śrubena-Unia believes that there will also be some long-term effects of the pandemic that will also need to be taken on board. “We believe that the experiences of companies and customers since the outbreak of the pandemic will mean that storing of products and stock will become even more critical. The pandemic has underlined the risk of interruption to the supply chain and due to this both distributors and manufacturers will need to look at their stocking capabilities and whether they should be increased, so that they have even more in reserve if required in the future.”
The company also believes that the impact on the supply chains will lead to companies reviewing their Far East sources and looking at the feasibility of using more local manufacturers within Europe – where there is less opportunity for the supply chain to be as severely impacted. “Our vision for the coming years is to make sure that Śrubena-Unia continues to be one of the biggest fastener manufacturers in Europe, through the development of both our machinery and products. We believe the situation on the market will let us continue investing in our machine park and we will continue to focus on the construction industry, as well as other sectors, to enable us to continue to grow.”
