Thanks to the investments in its R&D department, Carlo Salvi has been able to introduce the CS 513 TH – a new progressive combined machine with five stations that also includes an integrated pointing and threading unit.
With a minimum and maximum thread diameter of M6 and M12, the CS 513 TH also features a layout that has been developed to provide better accessibility and optimised ergonomics for the operator. “This is a combined production unit, which integrates a stamping unit, spot welding and rolling in a single machine as standard,” points out Carlo Salvi SpA. “It was developed for the cold forging of parts in five stations, subsequently rolled to obtain threads of various types.”
The threading movement of the CS 513 TH is driven by a desmodromic cam for gradual deformation and perfect synchronisation between ram movement and introduction of the parts into the flat dies. To add to this there is also a control system that brings optimised efficiency, with a special device preventing two parts from being fed into the flat dies at the same time.
Meeting customers’ needs
Look forward, Carlo Salvi is also planning to expand further, as well as reorganise its production departments and offices to help it meet demand. “As a business we have been focusing on satisfying customers' needs, as well as new market requirements. Production has historically been located in south-east Asia, and China in particular. However, it is now returning to Europe, which means the demand for our machines is very high,” explains Carlo Salvi. “That is why we are dedicating ourselves to the construction of new models of machines – in particular double stroke machines capable of printing lengths up to 200mm, as well as combined printers integrated with rolling units. At Carlo Salvi we devote ourselves to developing this range of products even further and a key factor in this will be the structure of our production department.”
The increase in demand from within Europe is a positive factor, after what has been a challenging period. “Of course Covid-19 had an impact – causing a loss in orders, especially for long-term production blocks – firstly in Italy and then around the world. This started two years of uncertainty for everybody,” mentions Carlo Salvi. “Other factors that we have needed to manage include the transport of goods and increase in costs; the sharp decline in exports from China to western markets, which further slowed production; and finally the price of raw materials and the costs of energy in recent periods – which are playing a very important role in the current market.”
“The Italian market was one of the first to restart after the pandemic, confirming once again that what characterises Italians is our inventiveness – especially in our sector. Italian companies immediately reacted in a proactive manner by placing themselves on the market with determination and the desire to get back into the game by showing an entrepreneurial spirit. This was definitely the case for us. In fact, we did not wait for orders and requests to start arriving again, instead we tried to anticipate the times by completing and studying new products and types of service, as well as increasing investments in research and development. This led to a strong and solid recovery for us as a business.”
Working for the future
Whilst there are still challenges within the market, Carlo Salvi will continue to work on how it handles costs whilst at the same time reducing delivery times. “By doing this we will become increasingly attractive and competitive in the national and international market,” states Carlo Salvi. “The fastener market is very strong and open to new requests, with large groups starting to demand localised production. We are confident this will lead to more opportunities for us thanks to the machines and services we can deliver.”
