BIAFD proposes exclusion of fasteners from UK CBAM 30 July 2024

The British and Irish Association of Fastener Distributors (BIAFD) has submitted a comprehensive response to the UK government’s consultation on the UK CBAM regulation, proposing the exclusion of fasteners from the scope of the scheme. The association also prepared a suggested response to help members with their own submissions.

BIAFD is renowned for offering practical guidance and fundamental support to its members, with the association leading advice on critical issues, such as Russian sanctions and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation, alongside other industry specific challenges.

The association’s efforts have been particularly crucial in helping members understand the impact a UK CBAM will have if fasteners (CN Code 7318) are included. BIAFD has also submitted a comprehensive response to the UK government’s consultation on UK CBAM and prepared a suggested response for members to use when sending their own submissions.

BIAFD Chair Ian Doherty explains: “Having an aligned position is vitally important so I would like to thank members for their unwavering support on such an important subject.”

This type of support has not only enabled BIAFD to retain existing members but also attract new ones, resulting in a notable increase in BIAFD’s membership numbers with Anixter Ltd, Earnest Machine Products Ltd, Spectrum Fasteners Limited and Masons Fasteners Ltd all joining in the last few months – with members actively participating in discussions, seeking advice and sharing their experiences.

Highlighting this trend of heightened engagement was the record attendance at BIAFD’s recent Spring meeting. “The high attendance is a testament to the value that members place on being better informed, better protected and better supported,” emphasises Ian.
