The British & Irish Association of Fastener Distributors (BIAFD) policy adviser, Phil Matten, will be retiring at the end of June.
Phil’s first involvement with BIAFD dates back to around 1992, when he joined the then Executive to represent Fastbolt UK. He was briefly vice chair, before joining a German fastener manufacturer.
When Phil was asked to take on the management of the association in 2004, BIAFD was at a critical juncture, needing renewed direction and purpose. Drawing on his industry knowledge, Phil worked closely with fellow directors to modernise BIAFD, strengthen its voice, and give it a renewed mission of keeping members better informed.
Phil has been the driving force behind BIAFD over the last twenty years, helping to guide the association through significant industry developments and ensuring it remains a strong and relevant voice for fastener distributors across the UK and Ireland.
Phil has been instrumental in ensuring members have access to expert analysis, market intelligence, and a strong platform for industry engagement. His efforts helped shape BIAFD’s response to major industry challenges, including regulatory changes and global supply chain issues.
Thanks to his dedication, BIAFD is now in an excellent position to continue its mission, providing members with the representation, information, and support they rely on.
Phil will be attending the Spring meeting where members will have the final opportunity to thank him in person for all his hard work over the years and wish him a happy retirement.
The BIAFD Administrative Committee is working on plans to ensure that members continue to receive the value they expect from the association. Further details will be shared in due course.
On behalf of everyone at BIAFD, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Phil for his invaluable contribution over the last two decades and wish him the very best in his retirement.
