The variety of possible material testing methods is enormous. If a manufacturer has to carry out various tests on different materials and components, several specialised machines are often required. However, with a modular universal testing machine from Hegewald & Peschke, numerous test methods can be carried out on just one system.
A recently delivered testing system by Hegewald & Peschke Meß- und Prüftechnik GmbH illustrates the possible complexity and modularity of such a testing system – with it being used by the customer to test a variety of materials such as metals, plastics, and composites, as well as samples of different shapes and sizes.
The most important component is an inspekt 250kN universal testing machine. Thanks to modular tools and adapters, various testing methods such as tensile, compression and bending tests can be carried out without major conversion work, which reduces time and effort. This increases flexibility and ensures efficient use of space, as less floor space is required. Uniform sensors and central control also improve the precision and comparability of the results. The expandability of the machine means that the system remains future-proof and adaptable to new standards and requirements.
Modular testing tools for maximum flexibility
The testing machine offers a variety of modular testing tools that enable maximum flexibility when carrying out tests. The hydraulic clamping devices, in this case for tensile tests on structural steel samples in accordance with ISO 6892-1A and ISO 6892-1B, are permanently integrated into the machine. Flexible adaptation via coupling slides allows the seamless integration of additional testing tools – without having to remove the heavy hydraulic clamping devices.
For testing thread samples, a connection sample holder is available, which offers easy handling and quick changeover options. Compression tests up to a load of 250kN can also be carried out using robust pressure plates that can be easily integrated into the machine. For bending tests according to ISO 178, a 3-point bending bench is used, which enables test loads of up to 10kN. Finally, for testing components, the machine offers a T-slot plate that enables flexible fixation of components of different shapes and sizes.
The system is complemented by a pneumatic gripping device with a double sided (parallel) closing system. This is particularly suitable for tensile tests up to 1.8kN, according to ISO 527 and ISO 37, and ensures safe and precise specimen holding.
To ensure precision over a wide force measurement range, the system has a selection of adaptable additional load cells with capacities of 50kN, 10kN and 1.5kN in addition to the main 250kN load cell. These load cells can be stored directly behind the test chamber using a practical holder and can be quickly replaced.
