Keller & Kalmbach sets new standards in fastener testing 03 July 2025

Keller & Kalmbach GmbH and LAW NDT have formed a Joint Venture, MEXS Vertriebs GmbH, to set new standards in modular measurement and testing technology for fasteners with the MEXS 400 testing system.

MEXS is 40% owned by Keller & Kalmbach and is based on a close cooperation between both partners to revolutionise industrial quality management. The MEXS 400 is a modular inspection system specifically designed for 100% inspection of fasteners and other high precision components. Its main strength lies in its exceptionally fast reconfiguration – the inspection stations are mounted on mobile trolleys and can be exchanged within minutes.

The tool-less exchange of material carriers also enables rapid reconfiguration of inspection processes, significantly increasing production flexibility. Thanks to this innovative design, companies can structure their test processes flexibly while maintaining high productivity. The ability to service test stations outside of the running process reduces downtime and increases efficiency.

“With the MEXS 400, we have developed a completely new generation of testing machines that offer maximum flexibility and efficiency. We have been able to incorporate more than 90% of the requirements of our customers, from machine operators to top management,” explains Reza Mahllati, owner at LAW NDT, a company specialising in the production of quality inspection machines for fasteners.

“From my 25 years of sales experience, I knew that the machine operators were the real experts. We therefore worked directly with them to develop a comprehensive list of suggestions for improvement. Together with our 36 years of experience, we developed the MEXS 400 – an absolute world first.”

Such a groundbreaking innovation required professional distribution. As a result, Reza approached Dr Florian Seidl, owner of Keller & Kalmbach. Florian recalls: “In the summer of 2024, our head of technical development and head of quality assurance at Keller & Kalmbach were immediately impressed by this completely new development. We quickly decided to form a Joint Venture to bring to market this modular, highly flexible and user-friendly machine, which offers numerous advantages over conventional screw testing systems.”

Ralph Christnacht, an entrepreneur, company founder and industry expert in machine tools and automation – will lead the sales effort. Later this year, the Joint Venture will expand its manufacturing capabilities to produce a larger volume of machines. “The MEXS 400 offers immense benefits to companies in a wide range of industries, and I look forward to successfully establishing it on a global scale,” says Ralph.
