National Machinery takes controlling interest in SMART 03 February 2016

National Machinery LLC has taken a controlling interest in SMART Machinery Srl. SMART Machinery is a new company formed to assume the business interests and assets of S.M.A.R.T Srl, the Italian-based company that is a leading thread rolling machine manufacturer and pioneer in using servo drive technology.

Founded in 2001, S.M.A.R.T is known for its technology advancements in thread rolling machinery whereby mechanical drives are replaced by high precision, low maintenance servo drives. Using its patented technology, S.M.A.R.T has developed a full range of flat die thread rolling equipment to serve the fastener industry. It also manufactures complementary equipment that includes planetary machines, washer assembly units, and pointing machines. S.M.A.R.T machines have been widely accepted by the market, and operate today in many countries.

National Machinery LLC, founded in 1874, operates in three business areas comprised of cold and warm forming equipment; customer service and support products on a global basis; and process technology. Based in Tiffin, Ohio, USA, National Machinery has global operations in the United States, Europe, Japan, China and Brazil. Its machinery is known for high-speed and the high precision production of metal fasteners and parts.

Andrew Kalnow, CEO of National Machinery, and Enrico Ghezzi, president of S.M.A.R.T, signed a framework agreement in Milan on 11th December 2015, which specifies ownership of the new company at 88% for National and 12% for Mr Ghezzi. SMART Machinery Srl will acquire the assets and business interests of S.M.A.R.T Srl, based upon certain conditions. National Machinery will become the global master agent for the sale and service of SMART equipment, using select sub-agents as well as company personnel.

SMART Machinery Srl plans to co-exhibit with National Machinery at its large booth at the upcoming wire® exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 4th – 8th April 2016.
