Free empirical testing from Evolution 07 March 2016

Evolution Fasteners Ltd is taking a bold step of offering free empirical testing in its UKAS accredited laboratory to move forward technical cooperation through different suppliers and manufacturers in the construction industry.

Whilst the European Commission has attempted to address technical cooperation using European Regulation No. 305/2011 (commonly known as the Construction Products Regulations), Evolution believes that the scope is limited to specific individual product types meeting a minimum performance throughout all member states of the European Union.

Therefore this does not aid specifiers of structural systems (such as framing, cladding, rain screens, renders, etc) and indeed in many cases only adds confusion where the Commission has forcefully superseded National Standards with European Standards – many of which are extremely simple and narrow in scope themselves and inferior to the National Standard.

Evolution Fasteners is attempting to change this by offering free empirical testing and training to any and all manufacturers and suppliers of products that incorporate Evolution fixings and fasteners in their product portfolio.

Evolution is able to provide this as it has built a UKAS accredited testing laboratory (which is also set-up to conduct research and development into structural systems) and has a technical team comprised of structural, civil and chemical engineers.

Michael Keisner, managing director at Evolution, said: β€œIt is our belief that cross-party technical cooperation and specification (even with competitors) will empower the end user and system specifier (consultant engineer, architect, etc) as well as lead to innovation and development arising from cooperation. As such, we are not looking to sell a service – indeed we provide it freely – we are looking to sell the idea of cross-party technical cooperation."
