Confidence is good; approvals are better 11 November 2015

Hilti Group has recently received European Technical Assessments for a selection of its anchors, including the Hilti HIT HY-170 – a multi-base material mortar.

Hilti’s HIT HY-170 system is approved (ETA – 14/0457) for cracked and non-cracked concrete with standard elements and two temperature ranges according to ETAG 001 Part 5. In addition, the system is approved (ETA – 15/0197) for hollow and solid masonry under ETAG 029.

“From fastening metal staircases, railing, canopies or pipes, to concrete or solid/hollow masonry, HIT HY-170 easily and reliably dispenses in all application directions and offers unmatched versatility. It is the optimal choice for safe, easy and reliable fastenings.”

Hilti also points out that its comprehensive portfolio of dispensers, rods, and masonry accessories work perfectly together with the HIT HY-170 as an unmatched system solution that delivers flawless fastenings with minimal mortar waste.

Higher loads and higher reliability with the Hilti HMU undercut anchor
A new addition to Hilti’s comprehensive undercut portfolio is HMU – a self-undercutting solution for a broad range of applications including C1 seismic and cracked concrete (ETA – 14/0060). HMU anchors are simple to install and come standard with a hot dipped galvanised coating for added robustness and corrosive protection. HMU delivers high tension loads and security due to its undercut functioning principle and is available in M12 and M16 diameters.

Hilti HIT-HY 200 with SafeSet™
Hilti HIT-HY 200-A and HIT-HY 200-R now offer higher design loads in addition to reduced minimum edge distances for use in both cracked and non-cracked concrete applications (ETA – 11/0493 and ETA – 12/0084, respectively). Together with SafeSet™, installation time is reduced in half when compared to traditional methods.

Hilti points out that when used as a system, the most load-affecting and time-consuming steps such as hole cleaning are eliminated, thanks to either Hilti HIT-Z anchor rods, or Hilti TE-CD and TE-YD hollow drill bits.

The Hilti HIT-Z anchor rod, with its cone shaped helix, works as a torque controlled bonded anchor. This means that because of their shape, HIT-Z anchor rods are not affected by uncleaned, hammer drilled holes in dry or water saturated concrete in base materials above 41°F (5°C) – when used with HIT-HY 200.

When using the HIT-Z rod is not possible or practical, standard elements can be set with HIT-HY 200 and Hilti TE-CD or TE-YD hollow drill bits. Drill dust can be removed by the Hilti VC 20/40 vacuum system while drilling is in progress for more reliability and a virtually dustless working environment.

“While each anchor is installed to carry a certain load, factors can affect an anchor’s performance over its lifetime. Inadequate or no borehole cleaning, for instance, can result in a serious reduction of its load-bearing capacity. Hilti’s SafeSet system takes borehole cleaning out of the equation while making anchor installation more reliable than ever before.”
